Netcool: probe nco_p_simu

Along with netcool, comes the simnet probe, that sort of randomly generates events.
Although nice for training purposes, it is only usefull for that. It is limited to generating four types of events (node, port and link UP/DOWN, and disk-saturation). This probe is a better replacement.

After the probe starts, a configuration file is read and processed. The probe can run either in one-shot mode, or periodically.

One shot

The one shot mode can run at a pre-defined delay or at random generated moment (within limits). This mode can be used to generate once a huge load on the object server. Its purpose: In this mode an email will be sent twice to a pre-defined address, so that the manager on duty will know when and what is to be expected. First mail will indicate when and what will happen, the second is send just before the test, as a reminder.

Periodically

After a configurable pause, a number of pre-defined events will be sent to the object server. The number of events (1...some...burst) can be configured. Which event will be sent, is determined by a random generator and a probability range.

Configuration file

In the configuration file, for each event following can be specified:

SDH Configuration file generator

A seperate tool can generates thousands of different events.
